On April 6, 2018, American Airlines announced its plans to more than double its 787 Dreamlinerfleet with a new order for 47 of the super-efficient airplane plus 28 options. This model, bearing RN N842AA and fleet 8MA, represents one of the first 787-9 delivered with the Silver Eagle,. mica-free paint. The airline took delivery of the aircraft on May 29, 2025. The aircraft flew from Everett Paine Field (PAE) to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on Flight 9824, departing at 3:20pm and arriving in Dallas at 8:21 pm.
